Every month USASOA volunteers gather with staff to strategize and advance the most imperative issues facing our military and veteran communities such as Veteran Homelessness and Hunger, Veteran Suicide, Veteran Unemployment, and Access To Proper Mental and Physical Health Care, and more.
Below are a few of our programs and services initiated to respond to some of our veteran’s most pressing needs. If you are a new volunteer or would like to learn more about USASOA, consider joining us - share your talents, skills, and energy to have a meaningful, positive outcome for our veterans their families, many of whom struggle and need your support.
The USASOA WOUNDED DEFENDERS OF FREEDOM FUND:100% of every dollar raised provides the essentials of life: food, shelter, heat, utilities, toiletries, and more to our combat wounded veterans and their families in need. We also offer an Amazon Store which anyone can access to help send these needed items and services to our wounded who are shut-in or hospitalized
USASOA Homeless Veterans Outreach Campaign: Our volunteers go out into the streets to locate and engage our homeless veterans and bring them a warm coat, blanket, gloves, socks, toiletries, a warm meal, and the care and support they need, earned, and deserve. Our direct engagement also includes acting as an immediate bridge back to the VA or other government and nonprofit services to get them off the streets and into a safe, healthy environment.
USASOA BOOTS ON THE GROUND - is our ‘monthly ‘grassroots campaign to collect non-perishable food, toiletries, clothing, and other essentials to distribute to our homeless and at-risk veterans. Collected items are also distributed at Walter Reed Military Hospital to our ill, injured, and wounded service members.
USASOA ADVOCACY PROGRAM: USASOA maintains a highly successful track record in Congress for the just-rights and dignity of our veteran community and with your help, energy, and financial commitment, we will continue to work to ensure the protection of all veterans and their families.
USASOA OPERATION: REBOOT - PEER TO PEER welcomes all veterans and service members of every age and period of service. REBOOT is a networking group in which we gather to build camaraderie and fellowship through various activities. Sometimes all it takes is for us to #BeThere for each other.
The USASOA AMBASSADOR’S LEAGUE volunteers make regularly scheduled goodwill visits to our military hospitals to meet and talk to our ill, injured, and wounded who continue down the long road to recovery. In addition to the care and support that the USASOA Ambassadors bring to our recovering wounded, they also bring with them care packages consisting of healthy snacks, gift cards, books, toiletries, and more.. Many of the items that make up the care packages come from another one of our programs. 'Boots On The Ground' - our collection drive. Once a month we hold an orientation and training session in our office for new volunteers who wish to join this program. The class is taught by mental and physical health professionals who provide their services to USASOA pro bono.
USASOA has been holding monthly BBQ FOR OUR HEROES events at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. Beginning in May and ending in late October, our volunteers and staff provide a monthly, outdoor BBQ for our wounded to come outside to enjoy. This morale program allows for our wonderful volunteers to directly engage our wounded and to not only bring them a terrific BBQ event but also to let them know that they and their incredible sacrifices are not forgotten.
Please join us and learn more about the other programs and services which we provide and offer, perhaps you too will find a place within our organization to help us to ensure that all veterans are treated as our greatest national treasures.
